Chinese Vegetarian Recipes - A Mouthful of Flavor

Posted by Chantel Martiromo, Article By

You can celebrate your vegetarianism by choosing a great Chinese vegetarian recipe. There are many vegetarian recipes, but none so flavorful and eye appealing as the Chinese versions. These recipes can be sweet and tangy to tart and spicy. Chinese vegetarian dishes will include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetable and the mainstays of the Chinese diet such as noodles, rice, bok choy, and tofu. The best thing about Chinese cooking is the variety of spices you can use to make your meal mouthwatering.
A few spices you might like to try out are ginger, soy, mirin (rice wine/vinegar), five spice powder, garlic, scallions, and soy. The five spice powder contains five spices (aptly named) fennel seed, cloves, anise, szechuan peppercorns, and cinnamon.
To add extra flavor to your Chinese vegetarian recipes you can throw in some bean curd, which adds bulk to your dishes. Bean curd also enhances the flavor of other foods remarkably well. Liven up your dishes with walnuts, which are high in omega 3 fatty acids, water chestnuts which adds a sweet flavor, have a delicate fragrance, and are soft and crisp, different types of fungi, mushrooms, and toasted seaweed, which comes in crispy sheets and is very flavorful. You will probably have to visit an Asian grocery store to find some of these, but most should be available in your local market or online.
The dishes should look colorful with a variety of vegetables. It's important that Chinese vegetarian dishes display a good balance of textures and colors as well as flavors. Interestingly, you will frequently find dishes resembling a type of meat or seafood.
Since ancient times, the Chinese have been practicing vegetarianism. This has given them lots of time to perfect the right combination of spices and flavorings, so being a vegetarian doesn't have to be boring. Just spice it up with some Chinese vegetarian recipes.
There are many great vegetarian recipes around, but for some added zing try Chinese vegetarian recipes. An array of vegetables and flavorful spices make these dishes perfect for vegetarians.
