Phytochemical Piperine and allergic effect


Piperine is a phytochemical alkaloid in the class of organosulfur compound, found abundantly in white and black pepper, long pepper, etc.

Piperine (4.5 and 2.25 mg/kg) orally administered 5 times a week for 8 weeks in a murine model of asthma, showed an effectiveness in suppressed eosinophil infiltration, allergic airway inflammation and airway hyperresponsiveness  by induced the production of interleukin-4, interleukin-5(white blood cells expression), immunoglobulin E and histamine.
