The smoothie for reduced risk and treatment of  leukemia
Yield: 2 servings (about 8 ounces each)
1 1/4  cups peanut
1/4 cup artichoke
1 cup green tea drink (Make from 4 grams(2 tea bags) of green tea, a slice of ginger and a cup of hot water lipped for 5 minutes, and set aside for cooling to room temperature)

1. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree about 1 minute
2. Blend on high speed about 1 minute or until the mixture is thick and the ice is well crushed. Add more green tea drink if needed
3. Serve immediately

Back by well known institution, according to the recent studies, green tea(1), peanut(4) and artichoke(7) may be next potential therapeutic target for producing a curable medication for reduced risk and treatment of leukemia.

Green tea has been a precious drink in traditional Chinese culture and used exceptional in socialization for more than 4000 thousand years. Due to its commercial values and health effects, green tea now has been cultivated all over the world in suitable climate.

According to the joint study lead by the The University of Western Australia, the inverse association between green tea consumption and adult leukemia risk probably due to expression of people in the GSTT1-null genotype (OR 0.24; 95 % CI 0.11-0.53) other than GSTT1-normal carriers(2). In chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), green tea polyphenol epigallocatechin-O-gallate exerted the cellular protective effect against progression of cancers through induced apoptosis via the anticholinergic and ASM inhibitor desipramine cGMP/ASM pathway(3).

Resveratrol is a phytochemical in the class of Stilbenoids, found abundantly in  peanuts, also expressed anti leukemia effects through induced apoptosis of human K562 cell line via the regulation of mitochondrial, in converting the energy from food signaling pathways(4).

In human in CCRF-CEM cell lines, resveratrol induced apoptosis in a time and dose- dependent manner through the expression of miR 15a and miR16-1 as tumor suppressors(5).
Dr. Han SY and researchers at the Department of Food Science and Nutrition Hallym University, resveratrol inhibited the cultured rat basophilic leukemia RBL-2H3 cells through suppressed the production of inflammatory Th2 cytokines and  in regulate cell functions of paxillin-linked allergic responses dependent upon MAPK signaling(6).

Silibinin, a major phytochemical found in artichoke displayed anti-cancer activity against various types of cancers and cell lines including Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in dose-depend manner(7), through cytotoxic effects.
In vitro models, K562 and KCL22 cell lines, silibinin also expressed inhibitory effects on cell proliferation, induced apoptosis through reduced mRNA expression levels of some transporter genesincluding the family MRP (8).
In the study of the combinatorial effects of plant polyphenols curcumin, carnosic acid, and silibinin on acute myeloid leukemia cells, Dr. Pesakhov S and colleagues at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev said, " dietary plant polyphenols--curcumin and carnosic acid--at noncytotoxic concentrations of each agent, produced a synergistic antiproliferative effect and a massive apoptotic cell death in HL-60 and KG-1a human AML cells" and "the potential use of dietary plant polyphenol combinations in the treatment and prevention of AML."(9).

The establishment of combined ingredients of green tea, peanut and artichoke in reduced risk and treatment of leukemia may act as a cornerstone for in deep, large sample size and multi centers study to confirm its effectiveness.

People who are at increased risk of leukemia due to family history, gene mutation, obesity.....should drink at least one serving daily and people with leukemia should drink no more than 4 servings a day, depending to digestive toleration.
Change of life style and diet pattern are also recommended.
