The finding of a natural source for reduced risk and treatment of Breast pain has encountered many obstacles, many ingredients showed initially the promising result in animal studies have not produced same potentials in either large sample size and mutli centers human trials.

Scientists in some well known institutions may have found the therapeutic and potential ingredients from natural sources(such as Flax seed, Vitex agnus extract and Avocado ) for reduced risk and treatment of Breast pain

Breast pain is any discomfort, tenderness, or pain in the breast or underarm region due to change of hormone just before, during and after period. According to  Dr. Goyal A 'Breast pain may be cyclical (worse before a period) or non-cyclical, originating from the breast or the chest wall, and occurs at some time in 70% of women(8).

Flaxseed oil, an extracted from the seeds of the flax plant (Linum usitatissimum) contained both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids may be effective in reduced breast pain for women with Breast engorgement. According to the joint study led by the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, in randomized controlled trial on 159 women, Flaxseed are effective in short-term period in decreasing cyclical mastalgia(1).
The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center study in review the effectiveness of flaxseed in of the literature of data bases suggested that the seed may benefit women with cyclic mastalgia (breast pain) due to the efficacy of alpha-linoleic acid(2).
Dr. Rosolowich V and colleagues at the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, said, "Flaxseedshould be considered as a first-line treatment for cyclical mastalgia"(3).

Chaste tree berry is a species of Vitex agnus-castus, genus Vitex, belongings to the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region, used in herbal medicine for thousands of year as anaphrodisiac herb and is considered as Queen herb in treating menstrual problems. The herbal extract has found effectively in reduced pain in women with Breast engorgement(4).
According to the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology-University, the popular herbal treatment, Vitex agnus-castus L. showed to reduce serum prolactin levels and ameliorate cyclic mastalgia in comparable to bromocriptine(5).
Dr. Halaska M and colleafues at the I. gynek.-porod. klinika 1. said, " Intensity of breast pain diminished quicker with .Vitex agnus castus (VACS) extract group. The tolerability was satisfactory. We found VACS to be useful in the treatment of cyclical breast pain in women"(4).

Vitamin E, a fat soluble vitamin found abundantly in avocado may also be used as natural supplemental agents for treatment of cyclic mastalgia, according to the study led by Hamadan University of Medical Sciences(6).
The evaluation the effectiveness of vitamin E, evening primrose oil (EPO), and the combination of vitamin E and EPO for pain control in women with cyclical mastalgiam conducted by the Mayo Clinic said,"Daily doses of 1,200 IU vitamin E, 3,000 mg EPO, or vitamin E and EPO in combination at these same dosages taken for six months may decrease the severity of cyclical mastalgia"(7).

The effectiveness of Flax seed,  Vitex agnus extract and avocado may serve as cornerstones of pharmaceutical target for further studies in production of a potential medication for for Reduced Risk and treatment of Breast pain with little or no adverse effects.

Women who are at increased risk of Breast pain due to family history,.....may drink at least one serving daily and women with Breast pain may drink as much as they can, depending to the digestive toleration.
